With its seven faculties, two schools and School of Foreign Languages, EMU offers high quality education to over 15,000 students. All 66 programs are accredited by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YOK) and they are also fully accredited by the Higher Education Councils and Ministries of Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, Palestine and United Arab Emirates. The graduates of EMU are accepted into the graduate programs of many distinguished universities around the world, including those in Turkey, USA, Canada, UK and other European Countries.
Eastern Mediterranean University is a full member of the European University Association (EUA) which is the main voice of the higher education community in Europe. The EUA creates many opportunities for universities in research, education and services to the society by allowing them to act as part of the European academic community.
Eastern Mediterranean University is also a full member of the International Association of Universities (IAU). Founded in 1950, the IAU is a UNESCO based worldwide association of universities. It brings together institutions and organizations from some 150 countries for reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education.
Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Departments of Electrical/Electronic and Mechanical Engineering have received substantial accreditation from “Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology” (ABET) of the United States that inspects technology and engineering programs offered in different universities worldwide.
The Department of Interior Design of the Faculty of Architecture is accepted by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) as an “International Design School”. This implies that the Department of Interior Design has received international recognition. The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Eastern Mediterranean University is recognized by TedQual (Teaching Education Quality in Tourism) which is internationally accepted within the context of world tourism education, and hence the School is able to give TedQual Certificates to its graduates.
Admission Procedure:
EMU offers a wide range of undergraduate programs leading to Bachelor’s degree, in engineering, the natural sciences, computer science, business studies, international relations, architecture, law, Turkish language and literature, communication and media studies, and English language and literature. Most departments offer programs of advanced study leading to Master’s and Ph.D. degrees.
Applicants for admission to EMU’s undergraduate programs are required to be graduates of a secondary school or its equivalent. Students who are admitted, but lacking the necessary proficiency in English are required to enter an intensive English program in the EMU Preparatory School.
Applicants for admission to graduate programs are required to submit evidence of satisfactory completion of their undergraduate education at the Bachelor’s or equivalent level, and references. Specific requirements vary from department to department, and may include interviews.
Tuition fees are paid in two equal installments, one at the beginning of the fall term, and the other at the beginning of the spring term. Campus Life & Residence Halls:
Life at EMU is relaxed, pleasant and comfortable. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities both on and off campus. There are numerous student clubs and societies at EMU that offer a wide range of activities including tennis, basketball, scuba diving, volleyball, football, handball, cricket, climbing, chess, ceramics, journalism, art, science and culture, literature, folklore, drama and animation, music, cinema, and photography.
Radio EMU and DAÜ TV station is also operated by students and staff, and broadcasts musical and cultural programs. All laboratories on campus are equipped with the latest state of art equipment and allow students put theory that has been learned in the classroom into practice. Eastern Mediterranean University Library supports the education and research activities of the university with its materials and information services. The library houses a collection of more than 120.000 books and other materials, and around 820 periodicals, and it has membership in more than 20 databases that allow access to full-text journals as well as bibliographical information resources. The library collection is classified in accordance with internationally accepted standards. Direct access to catalog terminals is available on the library premises and users can reach information through the on-line catalogue.
There are a total of 45 businesses located on the campus grounds; including 2 tabldot university subsidized restaurants, 14 cafeterias, 13 canteens, 10 tea shops, 1 buffet, 3 mini markets, and 2 internetcafes, which provide the best service at reasonable prices in a highly hygienic atmosphere with lower prices compared to similar businesses operating off campus.
EMU Dormitories are where long lasting friendships are established and EMU takes into careful consideration the varying needs and budgets of students. EMU Dormitories have the capacity to accommodate up to around 4000 students and are divided into female and male dormitories. Priority, at the dorms, is always given to new coming students. Throughout the year, the International Center and International Student Societies organize a series of “International Food, Music and Culture Nights” at EMU Beach Club.These events give international students a chance to exhibit their local cuisine, traditional dances and traditional costumes. These events are attended by EMU students and lecturers of all nationalities and are also open to the general public. The night usually winds down with students hitting the dance floor, to the latest international chart hits which are played by EMU students DJ’s .
EMU boasts a comprehensive indoor sports center, which is the largest in North Cyprus. In addition to the main hall, the sports center includes five smaller halls for training, four squash courts, a workout center, a conference hall and a VIP lounge. On-campus sports facilities include a grass football pitch, numerous tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, Astroturf seven-a-side football pitches and a cricket field; all of these facilities are floodlit for night use as well.
Although the cost of living will depend on an individual student’s life, monthly living expenses excluding rent, amount to approximately US $500.
