The American University, Girne/Cyprus(GAU) was founded in 1985 as an independent, non-profit institution of higher education. From its establishment, the University has focused on proving access to an American based Higher Education through offering learning opportunities directed towards a broad group of young, in charting its courses for the next century.

Admission Procedure:

Step 1:

Applicant is required to provide all academic documents, passport copy, bank reference latter, health report from a Government Hospital nd evidence of payment of 50 Euro application fee.All original academic documents should be attested by Ministry of Education and submitted upon arrival.

Step 2: 

If an applicant is found eligible, Provisional Acceptance Letter is issued and sent.

Step 3:

A non-refundable deposit mentioned in a Provisional Acceptance Letter should be transferred in order to secure ypur place at the universty.

Step 4:

After the deposit is received an official Acceptance Letter is issued. This letter will enable you to apply to Turkish Embassy for a transit visa to Turkey.

Step 5:

Once transit visa is obtained and ticket is purchased, flight details should be sent to International Admissions Department for the airport pick up to be arranged.

Step 6:

On the next day of the arrival please visit International Admissions Office in order to complete on-campus registration.

Campus Life :

At GAU we believe that students learn better when they enjoy their environment and surroundings. That is why we offer a full program of activities and facilities in the knowledge that it will provide opportinities for cross-cultural socializaion and individual growth. Academic year begins with an opening week of festivities that include various activities by students. Orientation programs converting academic, local surroundings and campus life are presented within these activities. During the first week of May, a traditional "Spring Festival" is organized by the Student Dean, the Student Union and contribution of Health, Culture and Sports Department.

GAU is a micro society, embracing staff and students from all over the world. GAU wants to reflect this in its activities. We want to give students to  opportunity to make the most out of their stay with us, by meeting other cultures.

International students have their own Union, the ISU, which organizes social activities on a regular basis and also functions as an umbrella organization, supporting all other international student clubs and societies. Its aim is to create a diverse community through developing a bond between differen cultures and through providing a friendly environment for students.
